IN celebration of National Science and Engineering week, Lesmahagow High School teachers challenged pupils to compare their sensitivity to natural disaster with that of animals.

An exciting week also saw Dr Gordon Curry from Glasgow University explaining the causes of earthquakes and the difficulties with their detection.

Each day’s activities began with science ‘stations’ where pupils tested their sense of touch, smell, sight and sound.

Pupils attempted to design an earthquake-resistant construction built as cheaply as possible from basic classroom materials.
