THERE was a carnival atmosphere in Biggar as the 2008 Fleming Queen Sophie Woodside was crowned in a blaze of sunshine.
Hundreds gathered outside the town's Municipal Hall to witness 12-year-old Sophie's day in the spotlight.
The Biggar Primary pupil's colourful coronation was witnessed by her proud parents Mike and Julie, as well as her grandparents, who came over from Northern Ireland especially for the event.
Mum Julie said: "Sophie was really looking forward to her big day.
"She was very excited in the morning when she was getting her hair done.
Party
"Sophie's grandparents came over from Ballyclare in County Antrim to be here. It was the first time they'd seen Sophie in her dress. They were really proud of her too.
"We had a few family and friends over at the house on Saturday night — being Irish we know how to have a good party!"
