A COMMUNITY buyout of Lesmahagow Jubilee Hall may be considered.
It could be the only viable option for villagers to retain the hall, which has been a fixture in Lesmahagow for over 100 years.

The issue was discussed at last week's Lesmahagow Community Council meeting.

Community council member Jeff Frew said: "I think a community buyout is the only option.

"It's make or break time and as a community council, in partnership with the development trust we either have to go for it or step back from it.

"We have got momentum, thanks to the recent Scottish Parliament debate.

"The first thing we would have to do is a feasibility study on the hall."

Last month the Jubilee Hall issue was discussed at Holyrood, thanks to a motion tabled by South of Scotland MSP Aileen Campbell.

Current council plans will see the hall close this year with the council re-opening the Fountain Hall, costing over £1 million.
