THERE was a heartfelt Bon Voyage to one of Clydesdale's most popular bus drivers on Friday.
Larry Connor made his last regular run on Stuart's Lanark-New Lanark service, better known locally as 'The Schemie'.

Larry, of Cairneymount Road, Carluke, has become semi-legendary over his 17 years on the run for his charity fundraising, collecting donations of loose change from his regulars.

It is calculated that he has raised, over that time, an amazing £21,000 for a very popular local cause, Lanark's Stanmore House School.

His regular passengers, many of them senior citizens, decided to mark his official final day by making a presentation of gifts to him.

Said one of them: "We just had to say thank you after all these years of courteous service, mostly to OAPs, towards whom he showed nothing but patience and respect."

For more information on this story, pick up a copy of this week's Carluke and Lanark Gazette which is in the shops now.
