FORTH Primary pupil Brooke Doran is celebrating after being given a role in Oliver.

Eight year old Brooke will play an orphan in the Glasgow Caring City Production after impressing judges in her very first audition.

Around 150 youngsters auditioned and only 40 made it into the show.

Brooke will now be rehearsing until the production begins at the Mitchell Theatre on May 13.

Her proud mum Fiona said: "Brooke went for the audition after her Gran read about it in a national newspaper.

"We went along and found out the same day. It was a bit like Pop Idol and I was very nervous!

"Her drama teacher told us Brooke was more than ready but some people go to 100 auditions before they get a part."

Brooke goes to the school's drama group and also attends the Helen O'Grady drama school in Lanark on Mondays.

One of her teachers Claire MacVicar said: "She is an absolutely lovely wee girl. It is just wonderful.

"In August, she was quite a shy wee girl. Now she's a fun and talented performer who buzzes into class on a Monday!

"She said she was in for the show and came in with her song to perform it.

"I told her not to worry if she didn't get in because auditions are hard but she did so well. I was chuffed to bits."

Claire — who has also starred in musicals such as Annie, Grease and Jekyll and Hyde — hopes Brooke's success will inspire others in her class to do the same.
