Lesmahagow High pupil Lindsay was sashed and crowned by the 2009 Highland Games Chieftain Frank McCann with proud mum Jane and dad Drew looking on.

Jane said: "On Saturday morning Lindsay was a bit nervous when she was getting ready and saw everyone outside but she really enjoyed her day.

"We held a big family party for her when she got home. We're all really proud of her."

Chieftain Frank McCann led the procession from outside Woodpark Primary down through the village as cheering crowds looked on.

Alongside the Lanark and District Pipe Band and East Kilbride Pipe Band the floats and fancy dress certainly brought some colour to Lesmahagow on a dark and overcast day.

And Lesmahagow Highland Games, held later that day, was hailed the best in years.

Secretary Kevin Avis told the Gazette he was delighted with the support the event has received in recent years.

He added: "Members of the public have been really supportive of the Games. This year's attendance was way up on previous years, which is a really good sign.

"It seems the community spirit is back in Lesmahagow!"
