Footgolf event in memory of tragic nephew

David Quigley's nephew Tyler sadly died at just a few weeks old.

Motherwell man David Quigley is holding a sporting event next month in memory of his nephew Tyler in aid of the CDH UK charity.

Kathleen McDonald and Graeme McGill’s son Tyler was born with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, which occurs in around one in 2,500 births, in April and, tragically, survived only a few weeks.

David said: “When Tyler sadly passed away from this condition it was a heartbreaking experience for my family.

“Tyler showed the same attributes as my little sister Kathleen in staying strong and putting on a brave face throughout what must have been an unthinkable experience.

“I never got a chance to take the wee man for a round of footgolf, but in his memory he will allow others to enjoy a fun round of the best sport in the world and raise money for a worthy cause.“

Footgolf is normally played in groups of five, following the same rules as golf, except using a football instead of a golf ball, and the ball is kicked rather than struck with a club, working towards a 21-inch “cup” in place of the usual hole.

Tyler’s Footgolf CDH Charity Event takes place at Palacerigg Driving Range in Cumbernauld on Sunday, August 7, and the cost is £15 for adults, £10 for children and £2 ball hire.

There will be prizes to be won on the course as well as raffles, bouncy castles, face painting and more.
