Clydesdale Folk Club's fitting farewell to David Roberts
A NEW CD with a difference has been launched by Clydesdale Folk Club — in memory of club stalwart David Roberts.
The double album, Have a Nice Life, is dedicated to David, who died suddenly in June 2005 and is the culmination of over a year's work for the club and David's family.
The launch night, held at the Elphinstone Hotel in Biggar, was also declared a success.
Folk club treasurer Chris McCosh said: "It was a fantastic evening's entertainment. We managed to get a lot of the people who played on the CD to come along and it was a brilliant night.
"We wanted to do something for David since he died. His parents, his sister and brother-in-law have enabled us to do this.
"They are thrilled that we have done this. It's testament to how much he was loved.
"Local musicians and members have worked on the album, which has made it very special."
Recorded and mastered by John Weatherby the first track on the album, named ''David and Friend'' features David himself singing two songs, Yellow on the Broom and Hermless.
It also features a song written for David by Guy Heath (Davey's Got a New Hat) and an exclusive recording by Sheena Wellington.
The second CD ''Live at the Elphinstone'' is the recording of tribute performances for David at the Elphinstone Hotel in Biggar on November 7 last year.
David moved to Biggar in 1998. Since then he involved himself in the community working on several different interests.
As well as being involved in Biggar Business Group and Wiston Lodge, David was part of the Tinto Folk Festival, out of which Biggar Little Festival was born, on top of being treasurer of Clydesdale Folk Club.
The Little Festival also paid tribute to him by being one of the sponsors of the CD.
Members of the folk club paid tribute to him on the cover of the album.
It says: "When David died, so suddenly and untimely, he left a huge hole in many of our lives.
"David was in Biggar for just seven years but in that time he immersed himself in the community, becoming involved in different facets of the life of Biggar and thereby doing what he loved best — connecting people and ideas.
"His enthusiasm and intuitive understanding of individuals and situations made all things seem possible.
''He saw what we needed and empowered us. Most of all, he became a good friend. 'Have a Nice Life' was his signature parting with friends.
''It is a fitting title for the CD — a memorial by friends who wish to mark his passing with a tribute to someone truly special.
"He was one of a kind and he is sorely missed."
