Douglas Gala Day slideshow
THE expected heavy rain certainly didn't dampen spirits as Douglas Gala Day got locals in the party mood.
Gala Queen Kelsey Beck was crowned in Crabtree Park by Crowning Lady Lorna Newbigging as the crowds looked on.
Floats gathered outside St Brides Community Centre, providing a sea of colour as residents braved the rain.
And there were plenty of weird and wonderful entries, making it difficult for judges to select the winners.
It was all smiles for Fiona Morrison and her helpers as their Happy Hallowe'en float claimed the double; winning best overall and best decorated float.
Douglas Masonic proved they were (Still) Game for a laugh as Jack, Victor, Navid and Isa and the rest of the Clansman regulars took home best comedy float.
Andrew Morrow and Co were at their hilarious best as the cast of Allo Allo and just missed out on the top prize while Liz Syme and her pirates finished third.
Other thrilling entries included the space explorers who were completely out of this world and CSI Douglas, led by Inspector Karen Macmillan.
Karen said: "I have been involved at Douglas Gala since I was a kid and I absolutely love it.
"It's the best day of the year by a mile.
"My boyfriend has come over from Dublin for his first gala day and I have even managed to get him dressed up as well!"
Douglas was definitely in the pink with the Pink Ladies edging out the all star team of Michael Jackson, Batman & Robin and Stewie Griffin into second place in the best pageant category.
Unfortunately as the procession began, so did the rain. But despite the downpour a healthy crowd turned out at Crabtree Park to witness the crowning ceremony.
Assisted by Ladies in Waiting Courtney Jones and Ruth Elliot and Champion David Lees, Queen-elect Kelsey made her way onto the stage for the crowning.
Gala committee chairman Kevin Chapman was delighted with the support.
He said: "I thought the event went very well considering the weather we had.
"The gala day is always well attended and once again the streets were lined with people.
"It seems that the gala is still very much a fixture in the calendar for the people of Douglas."
Kevin also thanked those who had made a contribution to the gala day saying donations were well above those in previous years.
