Douglasdale Players present My Fair Lassie
FOR three decades the Douglasdale Players have been putting their own unique twist on many a tale — now they have set their sights firmly on My Fair Lady.
The popular group's 30th anniversary production, entitled 'My Fair Lassie', substitutes Glasgow for London.
And it turns Eliza Doolittle from a flower girl into a Big Issue seller who wants to "speak proper" to get into university.
The play, which runs at Douglas Primary School from Wednesday, March 18, to Saturday, March 21, is just the latest in a long line of crackers from this local institution.
Anne Nolan, of Douglasdale Players, said: "It all started back in 1979 when Jimmy Clarkson wrote an original play to raise funds for the church.
"It was meant to be a one-off show but it was such a success they decided to do another one the next year and it just kept going.
"People now just expect a show from us every year. We have a very loyal audience – some of them have been coming to see us for 30 years."
Tickets for 'My Fair Lassie', priced 3-4, are available from Anne on 01555 851684.
