Lanark MP Jim Hood attacks his own constituency plan

editorial image

Veteran MP Jim Hood has ended up blasting changes to the borders of his constituency he himself demanded years ago.

However, this is NOT another case of a politician being two-faced but an honest admission by him that, while the `return’ of the traditional Clydesdale Constituency is exactly what he wanted, it comes at far too high a price.

“Blatant and gross gerrymandering,” is how the blunt MP, this year celebrating his quarter century representing Lanark, Carluke and the surrounding area in Westminster, described the Boundary Commission’s proposals for reforms of Scotland’s UK constituencies for the 2015 General Election.
