Carluke snooker ace William Thomson picked for Scotland

WITH a high break of 135, it's no wonder that Carluke snooker ace William Thomson is on cue to represent his country.

William (24), of Barr's Lane, has been picked to play for Scotland at the European Team Championships in Malta from March 23 to April 1.

The Wishaw General Hospital porter, who is ranked the fourth best amateur player in Scotland, said: "It will be a round robin tournament with eight groups, and I'm confident about qualifying for the quarter-finals.

"My snooker has improved a great deal in the past year and a half, because I've been getting professional coaching in Glasgow from Jim Donnelly.

"My results on the main tour in Scotland have improved since Jim started coaching me.

"He has made me a more consistent player and given me a bit more confidence before I go into tournaments."
