Crawfordjohn Heavy Mob compete at World Swamp Soccer

CRAWFORDJOHN Heavy Mob players thought that the way they were eliminated from the recent Swamp Soccer World Championships in Strachur, near Dunoon, was muddy awful!

Things looked promising for the lads when, after a 1-1 draw in their first group game against Scottish rivals Dirty B......s, they had a 4-1 win over American team Nanomudtologists — who were all dressed as Disney characters — before a 0-0 stalemate against the Dirty Half Dozen from England.

This meant that the Heavy Mob would qualify for the next round of the tournament — where matches were played on five-a-side sized pitches with mud a foot deep — if Dirty B......s either drew or lost their final group fixture against the Americans. But Nanomudtologists failed to turn up for this clash so Dirty B......s were awarded a 2-0 victory to progress at the Heavy Mob's expense.

Team member David Alexander (25), a Business student at Stirling University, said: "The way we went out was very annoying.

"All the boys were gutted and felt a bit let down because we didn't get a fair crack of the whip.

"We suggested to Dirty B......s that we should play a deciding play-off match against them, but they refused in case they lost."
