Rachel Barr captains Scottish Junior Girls Tetrathlon team
LANARK and Upperward Pony Club member Rachel Barr recently captained the Scottish Junior Girls Tetrathlon 'B' team against 14 other teams at the two-day British Regional Championships in Bedale, Yorkshire.
Rachel (15), of Quothquan, described her selection as the biggest achievement yet in a multi-discipline sport which includes target shooting, swimming, running and cross-country horse riding.
"Being captain in my last year as a junior was amazing," she said.
"It's the most prestigious tournament I've ever been involved in.
"The 'B' Team I captained did well to finish fourth overall out of 14 teams."
Rachel travelled down to the event with her 19-year-old sister Hayley and parents Andy and Lyn. Horse riding is her strongest discipline of the four.
Rachel's appearance in Bedale represented the third year in a row she had been chosen for a junior team.
Team coach Kirsty Biriss praised Rachel for improving so much this year and being a great team player.
Her next big event will be the Scottish Tetrathlon Championships at Gleneagles on July 28 and 29, where qualification for the National Championships is decided.
"I will train as hard as I can for that event and hope to do well," Rachel said.
