FOUR lucky football fans will get the chance to play in a Fir Park testimonial match for Carluke's own Dougie Arnott.

Arnott - part of the 1991 Motherwell Scottish Cup winning team during his glorious 12 years at 'Well - finally gets his overdue testimonial on Thursday September 11. And you could be there!

For just £10, supporters can enter their name for an online prize draw at the www.dougie-arnott.com website. The lucky quartet drawn out of the hat will get the chance to play an entire match alongside their idols as a Motherwell Select take on an Old Firm Select.

Richard Swan of the testimonial committee commented, "As well as being delighted to have football stars such as Tom Boyd, Andy Walker and Sieb Dijkstra taking part, we were keen to have a real fan atmosphere at the match, and there's no better way than actually having the fans directly involved."

More news of the stars taking part will be released through the website.

The Gazette caught up with Dougie this week, and the Fir Park hero thinks 'Well can follow up last season's third place finish with another successful campaign under miracle manager Mark McGhee.

"It is a great boost that Mark is staying," Dougie said. "It has given everyone associated with 'Well a huge lift.

"I think everyone thought he would move on after the amazing job he did in his first season.

"Mark will move on to bigger things, but it is great he is staying for Motherwell's European campaign."

Dougie believes that 'Well could match Aberdeen's achievement of last season, and get beyond the UEFA Cup group stages. And he also expects another high finish in the SPL.

"I've heard people saying it will be difficult for 'Well to finish third again," Dougie added.

"But back in the mid 90s, we finished third under Tommy McLean. Then in the next season under Alex McLeish, we split the Old Firm by finishing second."

If the same thing happens next season, Dougie and every other 'Well fan will be hoping McGhee signs a 10-year contract!
